Mitsubishi planning new supermini-SUV

PHEV tech to be introduced across the range, with a rival for the Nissan Juke to follow

Mitsubishi is on a product offensive, with the Japanese manufacturer planning a refresh of its entire model range, the introduction of PHEV (plug-in hybrid electric vehicle) technology across the range and a rival for the Nissan Juke.

Mitsubishi UK managing director Lance Bradley revealed to Auto Express at the Paris Motor Show that the brand’s priority is to update its current product portfolio and introduce plug-in hybrid tech across the range.

“PHEV is a really important part of our range,” said Bradley. “The plan is to trickle it down into other models, with every new model that is launched in the next five years and beyond having either electric or hybrid technology.”

Bradley also announced Mitsubishi would enter classes of the market it doesn’t currently inhabit. “There are some segments where I think we’d do well where we don’t currently have a model,” he explained. “A B-segment crossover is an obvious one and we will have news on that shortly.”

Before that, in 2016, Mitsubishi will deliver an all-new ASX, which will be made available with plug-in hybrid technology shortly after it launches. By 2020, around 20 per cent of Mitsubishi’s production will be hybrid or electric vehicles.
