2014 GM recall total tops 26 million vehicles
General Motors quietly issued three more recalls over the weekend encompassing more than 60,000 vehicles. Only one is for an ignition setup that can switch off while driving.
In the 2008-09 Pontiac G8 and the 2011-13 Chevy Caprice Police Patrol Vehicle, the driver’s knee can hit the key and move it from the on position to ACC. That causes loss of power brakes, steering and possibly the airbags. GM says there has been one crash from this, but no injuries. About 47,000 vehicles are affected.
Owners can contact Chevrolet customer service at (800) 222-1020 and Pontiac customer service at (800) 762-2737

The 2004-07 Cadillac CTS-V and 2006-07 STS-V models are also being recalled. An overheating fuel pump module terminal is the culprit. GM says the flange can melt causing the pump to leak fuel, leading to a fire hazard. GM will replace the module and fuel tank jump harness; just more than 10,000 units are affected. No injuries have been reported.
Concerned owners can call Cadillac customer service at (800) 458-8006. GM's number for this recall is 14405.

Lastly, the 2014 Chevy Sonic may have a loose electrical connection in the steering column that could affect the driver’s side airbag. GM says that if the condition is present, and the airbag lamp is lit up, the bag will only deploy in a single stage rather than two stages. GM doesn’t know of any crashes, injuries or deaths from the airbag issue.
That totals 74 recalls for GM this year, covering more than 26 million vehicles. Concerned owners can always call the NHTSA safety hotline at (888) 327-4236.
