NEW BABY JEEP STARTS AT $18,990 AND HAS A TRAILHAWK VERSION
The 2016 Fiat 500X not quite to your liking? The 2015 Jeep Renegade goes on sale in late February with a wide theatrical release starting in March, and the configurator for the new baby Jeep is already up on the automaker's website. The Michigan-designed Renegade will be the first Jeep to be assembled overseas in Melfi, Italy, and it uses the new Small-Wide 4x4 platform.
The Small part of that platform name isn't an exaggeration: the Renegade has a wheelbase of just 101.2 inches and it happens to be more than 2 feet shorter than the Chrysler 200 sedan. A 1.4-liter MultiAir Turbo producing 160 hp and 184 lb-ft is the smaller engine in the two-engine lineup, and it is coupled with a six-speed manual transmission. The larger engine is a 2.4-liter Tigershark good for 180 hp and 175 lb-ft of torque, and it is offered exlcusively with a nine-speed transmission that has already spread to other Fiat Chrysler Automobiles offerings like the Cherokee.
The Renegade will be offered in four distinct flavors, three of which will offer the option of 4x2 and 4x4 drivetrains. The base Sport trim will start at $18,990, while the Latitude trim will add a bit more equipment including roof rails, ambient LED interior accents, a six-speaker audio system, 16-inch aluminum wheels, a backup camera and a leather-wrapped steering wheel for $22,290. The Limited trim level will offer a bit more kit like 18-inch wheels, exterior chrome accents, and heated seats. Limited will start at $25,790.
Each of these first three trim levels will be offered with 4x4 at a $2,000 premium over the starting prices listed above. The range-topping Renegade Trailhawk will have 4x4 standard, as the name implies, and will only be offered with a 2.4-liter Tigershark unit. The Trailhawk will be distinguished by revised front and rear fascias with tow hooks, scuff plates and more generous approach and departure angles, among other items.
