Chevy Bolt might get a name change

GM'S NEW EV SUFFERS FROM A CLASSIC CASE OF MISTAKEN IDENTITY

    The Chevy Bolt made its debut at the Detroit auto show earlier this year. The EV offers 200 miles of driving range with an estimated price tag of $30,000 to $35,000. So what is holding it back? It could be the name.

    Bolt sounds a lot like -- you know -- Volt. The Detroit Free Press reports Alan Batey, president of GM North America, said, “Some people think it’s confusing.”

    Both of the cars use electric powertrains. However, there is a difference between the two: The Volt is an extended-range plug-in, while the Bolt is an all-electric compact.

    “We’re still in the decision phase,” Batey said. “It could go either way.”

   There is still time for a name change. We were thinking Zip-Zap. Or Edison. Anyway, the (not-)Bolt will likely go on sale in 2017. It will be built at GM’s Orion Assembly in Michigan.
