Photo shows 2016 Camaro side-panel die on the factory floor

SURPRISE! IT LOOKS A LOT LIKE A CAMARO

Seems like the guy involved with building the die for the upcoming sixth-generation Chevrolet Camaro slipped up and posted a photo of his work online. Before he yanked the photo, which appears to show the die for the side of the car from the A-pillar back to the tail, an enterprising Camaro6.com forum member saved it for posterity.

It’s not an un-camoed glimpse of the car, exactly, but it’s still cool -- almost sculptural. The 2016 Camaro in bas-relief, if you will.

And we can glean some details about the overall car from its die. Side windows remain small, so don’t expect the new Camaro’s interior to be any airier than the current model’s. The window behind the door trades its triangular look for a sort of irregular trapezoid, too, which suggests that the roofline cuts downward more abruptly toward the tail.

The sculpted rear haunches remain. Camaro6.com calls them “wide sexy shoulders,” but then, they’re maybe a tad more into Camaros than we are. If anything, those rear haunches may be more defined on the upcoming car, but we’ll have to wait a few months for the full reveal to find out for sure.

Thanks to GM-ACE for grabbing this photo before the original poster took it down. Head to the Camaro6.com forum for lots of analysis, supposition and discussion about what, if anything, this photo tells us.
