Ferrari replacing fuel tanks on select LaFerrari models

NO RECALL, SAYS FERRARI, JUST AN "INVITATION"

Ferrari is calling in a limited number of the already limited number of LaFerrari hypercars for an update/paint job to the fuel tank. It's not a recall, according to the company.

“Due to a possible incorrect adhesion of a layer of paint on the fuel tank, some clients have been invited to take their cars to an authorized service center to substitute the fuel tank with a new one with new paint,” Ferrari said. “The time to change the fuel tank is relatively short and the intervention concerns only a limited number of LaFerraris.”

The service will take less than a day to complete.

However Autoblog.nl, is speculating that there is more to the story including a fire risk, noting that the new tanks are scheduled to be covered with a non-conducting surface. The report notes the fire problems of the 458 Italia, and has apicture of a LaFerrari, reportedly in a German shop for the service. The car is in two pieces.

Still, Ferrari says there’s no risk, we’ll keep watching this story as it develops.
