Kia Soul EV heading to Georgia, Washington, Texas, Oregon and Hawaii

MORE MARKETS PLANNED FOR 2016

The quirky Kia Soul EV is going on sale in Georgia, Texas, Oregon, Washington and Hawaii. They will join California as states that both have enough infrastructure for electric vehicles and have shown consumer demand. Soul EV-authorized dealer locations will be announced later this year.

“From the inception of the Soul EV program, Kia’s sales strategy has been progressive and pragmatic,” said Orth Hedrick, vice president of product planning, KMA. “With the level of demand and supporting infrastructure in the state, California was a natural place to start, but we’ve been carefully studying other markets. Between consumer reaction to the Soul EV and growing infrastructure programs in these five states, this is a logical -- and exciting -- next step in our rollout plan.”

To refresh, the front-wheel-drive Soul uses an 81.4-kW electric motor producing 109 hp and 210 lb-ft of torque. Multilayer magnets reduce motor whine at speed. Acceleration to 60 mph will take less than 12 seconds, while top speed is limited to 90 mph.

The Soul EV will go on sale in the second quarter in Georgia, where the company has its KMMG assembly plant in West Point. Kia says the Peach State has 284 charging stations statewide.

The other four states will begin selling in June, and Kia says it’s still investigation other markets.

The Soul EV costs $33,700, not including the federal tax rebate of $7,500, for the base model and $35,700 for the Plus trim. Additional markets are set to come online in 2016.
