2016 Chevrolet Volt Order Guide: Options, Trim Levels...But No Prices Yet

These days, waiting for a new car is akin to the anticipation surrounding a Hollywood blockbuster.
First come the teases, then more substantive trailers, perhaps followed by a lengthier preview or two, and finally, the main attraction. In the car world, the appearance of an online configurator or a dealer order guide is one of the later stages. The 2016 Chevrolet Volt won't go on sale until the second half of this year, but GM has now published a 25-page "Online Order/Reference Guide" for the new plug-in hybrid. While pricing for the 2016 Volt hasn't been released, the order guide shows a wide spread of standard equipment and options among individual trim levels, notes Inside EVs.

There will be two Volt trim levels initially--base LT Hatchback (LT) and the more upscale Premier Hatchback (LTZ).

The base model comes standard with cloth seats, a six-speaker audio system (but no CD player), two USB ports, and 17-inch aluminum wheels, among other features. Heated front seats and a heated steering wheel are optional on the base LT, but standard on the Premier LTZ--which also includes heated rear seats and a wireless phone charger.

Significantly, power-adjustable seats aren't available for either version, likely as a way to save weight. The upper trim level also has a longer list of optional equipment, including an eight-speaker Bose audio system, Chevy's MyLink infotainment system with navigation and an eight-inch touchscreen, and Intellibeam headlights adapted from Cadillac.

A number of electronic safety features are also available on this model, such as Forward Collision Alert, Lane Keep Assist, and Front Automatic Braking.

There will be seven exterior colors available initially--Siren Red Tricoat, Iridescent Pearl Tricoat, Heather Gray Metallic, Silver Ice Metallic, Summit White, Mosaic Black Metallic, and Kinetic Blue Metallic.

All Volt models also include an audible signal designed to warn pedestrians, a precaution taken because of the quiet electric powertrain. The difference in equipment levels between the two Volt models hints that Chevy may widen the price range as well.

It could price the base model lower, but leave the Volt's often affluent customers the option of upgrading to get more equipment. Of course, it may then be difficult finding a base car on an actual dealer lot--or a higher-level model not loaded with optional extras--especially in the car's early months on sale.

We'll find out for sure when Chevy announces pricing for the 2016 Volt, which could happen as soon as the next several weeks.
