Secret Citroen Aircross concept let out of the bag early

Citroen Aircross concept car leaks online ahead of official reveal on April 8th 2015

The Citroen PR machine has sprung a leak and what appears to be the first picture of the new Citroen Aircross concept car has gushed out of it. The new crossover SUV concept is revealed for the first time in the grainy image you see above.

The Citroen Aircross was due to make its official debut on April 8th but this leaked image gives us a very clear view of the new car that hints at the styling direction for the French brand's new mid-sized crossover. It's believed that the production car will be based on the same platform as the Mitsubishi ASX and will also form the basis of the new Peugeot 4008. It will replace the existing Citroen C4 Aircross in the range.

We can see that the Aircross concept borrows heavily from the bold design of the C4 Cactus production car (above) around the front end. Twin grilles run the width of the nose, the uppermost one incorporating slim LED running lights and Citroen's double chevron badge. A steeply raked windscreen will produce a sporty profile and the car looks to have either a 3-door layout or concealed rear doors.

The image of the Aircross concept appears to be taken from a Citroen advertisement or promotional brochure and the words "Ever seen a camera on four wheels?" are included underneath the image. This has led to speculation that the car may contain an advanced 360-degree camera system. The text on the image also reveals that the Aircross will be powered by a 1.6-litre BlueHDi diesel engine with 98bhp.

We'll bring you full details on the Citroen Aircross concept when they're officially released on April 8th 2015.
