2016 Chevrolet Cruze Teased Ahead Of June 24 Debut: UPDATE

The 2016 Chevrolet Cruze compact sedan will be unveiled just over three weeks from today--although we've already seen it, more or less.A version of the next-generation Cruze was unveiled in China more than a year ago, but the version that will be sold in the U.S. won't appear until June 24.

Confirmation of the 2016 Cruze's debut date came from General Motors in the same week as the Google I/O conference.

So perhaps it's not surprising that the first details released about the U.S.-spec Cruze are that it will be offered with Google's Android Auto smartphone connectivity--as well as rival Apple's CarPlay.

These systems allow drivers to control certain smartphone functions using a car's built-in buttons, and voice-command system.

Buyers will have to specify the MyLink infotainment system with 7.0-inch touchscreen to get access to both systems. An 8.0-inch version will also be available at launch, but with CarPlay only.

Based on what we've seen of the Chinese-spec Cruze, those touchscreens will be attached to an interior that's somewhat more upscale than the current Cruze's. From what we can see in Chevy's teaser image, the U.S.-spec Cruze exterior should be fairly close to the version unveiled in China last year.

The exterior will be quite different as well, with a faster roofline and shorter overhangs for a more compact appearance.
