Mercedes ML Coupe spied

A prototype for the Mercedes ML Coupe, the brand’s answer to the BMW X6, has been spied testing in the USA
Our spies have spotted the forthcoming Mercedes ML Coupe once again, this time doing the rounds in a small town in the US state of Nevada.
The test mule, registered in Michigan according to the number plate, was a long way from home, suggesting long-distance durability and comfort were under investigation.
As you can see, the ML-Class spin-off is still largely concealed beneath a deceptive camouflage wrap, however it clearly bears a heavy resemblance to the Concept Coupe SUV unveiled at the Beijing Motor Show earlier this year.

The BMW X6-rivalling ML Coupe looks set to carry over that design study’s gaping grille and full width lower air intake. There’ll also be a sloping roofline, which plunges dramatically towards the rear of the car, plus sculpted flanks similar to those on the GLA.
Gone are the concept’s frameless windows though, with Mercedes also ditching the front skid plate in favour of a redesigned bumper, lending the ML Coupe a more low-slung appearance.
Technical details remain fairly thin on the ground, and there’s currently no word on what sort of engine line-up the four-door SUV coupe will feature, although it should mirror the ML range.
An AMG variant is also expected, targeted at the BMW X6 M and set to feature the German manufacturer’s 5.5-litre V8 engine, possibly tuned to match the SL63 AMG’s 577bhp and 900Nm output.
We’ll have to wait for the ML Coupe to arrive in 2015 to know for certain, with an official debut most likely set for the start of the year.
