Want a Porsche 918 Spyder? Too bad -- they’re all sold out

START BROWSING THOSE CLASSIFIEDS FOR A NICE USED EXAMPLE

Don’t say we didn’t warn you: It’s too late to place your order for that Porsche 918 Spyder. According to a report by Bloomberg, every example of the car has been spoken for. The $845,000-and-up hybrid hypercars weren’t exactly collecting dust on dealer lots; deliveries just began in March.

Of the 918-car production run (get it?!), a plurality -- 297 cars, to be precise -- found homes in the United States. The Germans and the Chinese bought another 100 each, and we’re guessing a significant chunk of the remaining stock has been sprinkled across the Middle East. At least one went to Canada, where it promptly burned to the ground.

Since your hopes of getting a new 918 are shot, you might as well experience its scorching 2.6-second 0-60 acceleration, 214-mph top speed and glued-to-the-track handling vicariously through our drive review.

Of course, if you’re not afraid to wade into the used-car market, we’re sure it won’t be long until nice, low-mileage pre-owned examples start hitting the classifieds. Just be wary of any salvage-titled specimens claiming minor fire damage.
