THE HOT CAYMAN WE’VE BEEN DEMANDING GOES ON SALE IN JULY
After months of speculation, Porsche officially revealed the 2016 Cayman GT4. The new coupe gets bits from the 911 GT3 and clocked a 7-minute, 40-second lap of the Nurburgring North Loop. It will make its world debut at the Geneva auto show.
That time, ignoring the complications of tires, driver skill and weather, puts the GT4 ahead of the last Ford GT and Camaro ZL1, and just behind cars like the Ferrari 430 Scuderia and Lexus LFA.
We’ve heard tons of rumors about this car, and they landed pretty close to the actual specs. The GT4 gets 385 hp from its 3.8-liter flat six sourced from the Carrera S. Power goes through a six-speed manual -- that’s a six-speed manual only -- to the rear wheels. Zero to 60 mph goes by in 4.2 seconds, and top speed is 183 mph. The GT4 rides about an inch lower than the standard Cayman and gets upsized brakes.
The GT4 gets three big inlets in front and a large fixed rear wing to improve high speed cornering. Porsche carbon ceramic brake package, carbon fiber bucket seats and the Sport Chrono package are optional.
Inside, the standard sport seats are swathed in Alcantara and leather. A new sport steering wheel is also covered in Alcantara, and features relief spots for the driver’s thumbs.
The GT4 will make its world debut at the Geneva motor show in March. It will arrive in American showrooms in July, costing $85,595, including destination. We’ll find out more next month.
