ORDER BOOKS OPENED FOR PERFORMANCE ATS-V SEDAN AND COUPE
Cadillac has just announced pricing for the ATS-V and dealers have started taking orders for the performance sedan and coupe duo.
The ATS-V sedan will start at $62,455, while the coupe will start at $64,655. We'll save you the time to look up pricing on the BMW M3 and M4; the ATS-V coupe and sedan undercut their Bavarian competitors by a few hundred dollars. The M3 sedanstarts at $62,950, while the M4 coupe starts at $65,150. Of course, the Cadillac's price advantage can be rendered moot by an errant click on some option package, so it's prudent to call them evenly matched, presuming someone will be cross-shopping these four machines.
The ATS-V is powered by a 3.6-liter V6 engine, which comes with a choice of a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmission, and is good for 455 hp and 445 lb-ft of torque. Cadillac says these performance figures are enough for sprints from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.9 seconds, and up to a top speed of 185 (where permitted). Assuring that the ATS-V can perform this feat is a launch control with Performance Algorithm Shift, which is coupled with the eight-speed automatic. In the manual-transmission version, it's all up to you.
The 3.6-liter V6 features vacuum-actuated wastegates along with turbochargers with low-inertia titanium-aluminide turbines, plus a charge-cooling system designed to maximize boost pressure.
The ATS-V is further set apart from your run-of-the-mill ATS by the inclusion of Magnetic Ride Control, which gives the car 40 percent faster damping response, and a Brembo high-performance braking system. Cadillac has also been able to increase structural stiffness by 25 percent in this performance model, to allow it to cope with higher cornering loads. Tri-compound Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires will be bearing those loads, and to capture it all for posterity the ATS-V will offer thePerformance Data Recorder that is also offered on the Chevrolet Corvette.
