NEW GAS AND DIESEL STATION WAGON FAMILY WILL START AT $22,215
Volkswagen has announced pricing for the 2015 Golf SportWagen, which will replace the outgoing Jetta SportWagen S model. This replacement, first and foremost, means a more spacious interior for the smallest station wagon in Volkswagen's stateside lineup, and it also means better fuel efficiency and more standard equipment. The new Golf SportWagen range will also be varied, offering gasoline and diesel engines among multiple trim levels, and will start arriving in dealerships by April of this year.
The gasoline engine will be a 1.8-liter, 170-hp turbocharged and direct-injected four-cylinder, connected either to a five-speed manual or a six-speed automatic gearbox. The diesel engine will be a 2.0-liter 150-hp four-cylinder TDI Clean Diesel, which will be paired with a choice of a six-speed manual or a six-speed DSG automatic transmission. The gas engine boasts 36 mpg on the highway, while the diesel will reportedly return 43 mpg on the highway when paired with the manual transmission.
The Golf Sportwagen will start at $22,215 for the base TSI S gas model with five-speed manual gearbox. The six-speed automatic will add $1,100, but the S will still have items like a touchscreen radio, Media Device Interface (MDI) with iPod integration, Sirius XM radio, Bluetooth connectivity, power windows, power door locks, 15-inch aluminum wheels, and leatherette seating surfaces with manual lumbar adjustment as standard equipment.
