Rolls-Royce launches Wraith ‘Inspired by Film’ ahead of New York auto show

CELEBRATES ROLLS ROYCE FILM'S ACCEPTANCE INTO BRITISH FILM INSTITUTE

The Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Wraith launch film, “And the World Stood Still,” was accepted into the British Film Institute National Archive. To celebrate, the company created the Wraith “Inspired by Film,” which will debut at the New York auto show on Thursday.

The Wraith nameplate has made appearances in a handful of famous flicks including "Goldfinger" (1964), "The Yellow Rolls-Royce" (1964), "The Thomas Crowne Affair" (1968) and "The Great Gatsby" (1974).

This Wraith “hero car” gets a selection of bespoke touches, including the two-tone silver paint job and silver hand-cast Spirit of Ecstasy hood ornament. Inside the suicide-style doors, drivers are treated to anthracite leather and tan accents.

“We are delighted to see Rolls-Royce’s Wraith launch film enter the BFI’s collection,” said Patrick Russell, senior curator for non-fiction films. “We selected it for preservation as it is an outstanding and award-winning example of modern corporate promotional filmmaking. It’s a powerful use of the film medium for product launch purposes, executed with impeccable craftsmanship.”

The latest Wraith, which debuted at the Geneva motor show in 2013, is the most powerful Roller ever made. It hides a 624-hp twin-turbocharged 6.6-liter V12 under the hood and can sprint to 60 mph in just 4.4 seconds. The Wraith comes in at a hefty $284,900, before the bespoke options. However, the new Film Wraith package is an edition you can order and there is no limited number. The car will be available for sale in dealerships following the New York auto show.

The film will debut at the New York auto show on Wednesday; go to Rolls-Royce’s website to watch.
